Finger Paint Fun

I woke up to a cool proposal " Could you illustrate my tag? "

I took on the challenge and created a weird three eyed monster face in my iPad. I like how fast I can create just with my fingers on a screen. It's like finger paint for adults. No mess, no clean up, just finger paint! I've been thinking for a while if I should upgrade my iPad or if I should get a Wacom instead... hard decisions.

Memorial Mural for Maylin Reynoso in the LES

Tomorrow, Sunday, November 13, KayLove and I will be painting a memorial mural for Maylin Reynoso thanks to Las Brujas. They were able to secure a wall in the LES, Rivington and Bowery, through the New Museum and the gallery On Stella Rays, during Scamming the Patriarchy: A Youth Summit.

If you didn't know her, Maylin was part of Las Brujas, an all female skater group in The Bronx. She disappeared one night in July, her family reported her missing but not much was done. After a week, they figured out that a body that appeared floating in the Harlem River days before, was her.

"Whereas white women are innocent victims in disappearance scenarios, the assumption with young black and Latina women is often that they were somehow involved in activities that led to their kidnapping or death.

Fourteen young black and Latina girls in the Bronx have gone missing since July 2014 (9 have been found). According to Bitch Magazine, despite initial concerns that their disappearances were linked to a forced prostitution ring in New York City, all of the girls were labeled as “runaways” by the NYPD. The disappearance of 14 young girls from a single borough should have gotten more attention. Instead, their disappearances have been treated largely as a mundane reality. Would the same be the case for 14 young white girls disappearing in the suburbs?"

It's that time of the year... NY Comic-Con is here!

These are the pieces I customized this year for Argonaut Resins. Mariposa and Dragonfly are already at the NYC Comic-Con and I will join on Sunday painting live some more resin toys.
I can't wait to be there again! It's such a great atmosphere, the people, the costumes, art everywhere... It is a pretty cool experience. If you are going to be there on Sunday, come visit us at booth 404 at The Block. You won't be disappointed :)

Nature is watching you!

This is the latest mural I've done, to celebrate the The Bronx Music Heritage Center will be opening a new building soon. They are on a mission to beautify the Melrose area where the new building is going to be placed. For that mission, WHEDco has partnered with BxArts Factory. We will be bringing artists to work with the community and make the area happier.

I spent a couple of days doing what I do best, creating a colorful piece of art that everyone can enjoy. Visit this mural and other beautiful murals at 163rd St and Melrose Ave, in The Bronx, New York. I had the pleasure of working with Ralph Serrano and KayLove.

I want to thank Vanezza and Allison who came out to spray some paint and they were a great help!!

With my Eye-Flowers (and sometimes Skull-Flowers) I want to send a message to the viewers, to make them reflect in what we are doing to Mother Nature. I've always been in the green side, and some of the things we are doing to this wold are already coming back to us. We can't keep trashing the oceans and burning our trees to plant transgenic soy beans. Just think about it.

Painting Live at Boogie on the Boulevard

This has been a very busy summer; one of the things I have done is organizing a live painting event at Boogie on the Boulevard with BxArts Factory and HeavenBound7 Sk8 Shop. Henry, the owner of the store, repurposed about 20 old skate decks sanded them and prep them to be painted. Many artists came out that day to encourage the community to be healthy and to show how every artist has a process and creativity is everywhere!

“Access To Art” Fundraiser For The Bronx ArtSpace

This Saturday August 2nd come and support the Arts in The Bronx. I'll have three pieces in this fundraiser exhibition. Hope to see you all there!

The Bronx Art Space (BAS) is pleased to announce “Access To Art” an annual fundraiser, showcasing a spectacular range of artwork from artists in the New York City tri-state area August 2-16, 2014.

BronxArtSpace believes that fine art should be accessible to everyone, and will kick off the event with an opening reception on August 2, 2014 at 5:30-8:30. All are welcome.

What makes this “secret gem” of an art show unlike any other in New York City is the combination of refined, sophisticated, high quality fine art at prices that are truly affordable. Language is Identity

I want to share with you a project I will be part of this June. The organization Visiones Culturales is creating an exhibition with many interesting artist collaborating, poets, visual artists, performers, all trying to find our identity through the language.

Visiones is back and this time we are bringing to you Language is Identity! An amazing exhibition to Open June 26th at the Bronx Art Space!

“To speak a language is to take on a world, a culture.” ― Frantz Fanon

“Language is Identity” will explore how language plays a role in the maintenance of our individual and collective identities and at the same time serves as a vehicle to help us revise our identity as we interact with new environments, people and experiences. For this show various artist and poets will explore such themes as our voices, the words that move us, the words that hurt us, and the words that remain after immigration, emigration, after misplacement. We will explore topics of language lost and the emotional connection we have with language, how we use language to build or destroy, to censor and how self- worth is connected to it.

Some of the events include (specific time line will provided at a later time): performances by Urayoan Noel, Skye Cabrera and Laura Alvarez, Music by Opposite Parts, Artist Talk and Panel of experts, and Presentation of Film Installation: Language is Identity by Fabian Caballero.

The paintings, poems, performances and multimedia displays will be curated by Josue Guarionex Colón and Yolanda L. Rodríguez.

Spooky Nights at the New York Botanical Garden

Last weekend and this coming weekend I'm part of the crew working at the Spooky nights of the New York Botanical Garden. My friend Lucrecia Novoa asked me if I wanted to wear one of her creations. How would I resist??? I think she is a magnificent artist that lives and breathes art. Her pieces are full of life, mystery and creativity. It's a pleasure to be sharing my art and my time with four beautiful women in a wonderful place like the Botanical Garden.
