Years ago, I was invited to participate in an exhibition curated by Erin Hilton at Coronado Print Studio, which was then located in Harlem. I created this illustration called "Bodegon" to be printed in four colors using silkscreen.
A few weeks back, I received the news that the Library of Congress has acquired a copy among other pieces created in the studio. I am really happy and proud about this!!!

Happy New Year of the Dragon. Believed to soar through the waters and heavens as a nature deity ruling over the rains, the dragon is a dominant figure in Chinese mythology, perched at the center of longstanding creation tales. Ancient legends depict the mythical being, called long in Chinese, descending to the ground with the fog and rising out of the ocean with the sun, moving the seasons in its wake. Initially a vague motif in ancient Chinese art, the dragon is now an emblem of benevolent divinity, imperial power and sweeping unity. Its symbolism builds on thousands of years of folklore and Chinese history. And, as the only mythological animal in the Chinese zodiac system, the dragon takes on yet another layer of meaning.
I wish everyone had a great time this holiday season, whatever you celebrate. We stayed home and enjoyed quality family time, good food and our amazing New York City.
Hoping for a great New Year that just starts. As Valentine's Day approaches, I wanted to tell you that no matter how many gifts, cards, flowers or chocolates you get or don't get, you should love yourself first!
I see a lot of people not valuing themselves enough just because they feel they are not loved the way they believe they have to be loved. Relationships are not easy, but at the same time they make us humans. Lo, let's start taking care of ourselves, our mental health, our sanity, and then we can worry about the rest. Now take some ME time and color the latest coloring page on my Have Fun Section! I wish everyone a happy and healthy Valentine's Day. For the past four years I have been collaborating with a Spanish non-for-profit organization Art i Més, from Gandia, Valencia, for their bi-annual publication ContArte. I created several of their cover illustrations and I also illustrated many of the wonderful stories. Through their writing workshops they bring the community together, an intergenerational space that gives a voice to anyone who wants to share it. They pick a specific theme to create those stories, they work during five months, weekly, to help each other so they can publish two compilations a year. But not only they publish the books, but put together several reading events, partner with a local radio to air the stories made into audiobooks, and give all their earnings to another local non-for-profit that helps kids with terminal illnesses. Un tren de cuentosHuellas de diez ciudadesUn universo de historiasPatitas con AlmaLast October, like I've done for the past few years, I commited to create one drawing a day during Inktober. This year I wanted to do something different, and instead of using traditional inking tools, I decided to go with my iPad and Procreate. As a twist, I combined prompts from two different lists: TheyDraw and Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. This past year, besides self-publishing my first children's book, I decided I wanted to push harder into my illustrator career. Networking, learning and mingling with other illustrators is something important. So far it has been a nice road, I am hoping to continue bettering my style, improving my portfolio and with that, my chances to make it!
I've always liked plants, I work for NYC Parks and still I am a terrible plant care taker. I am never sure if what I am doing is good or not, and I end up doing something wrong (or not doing anything at all) and they end up dying.
I decided to start doing one drawing a day (quick drawing) with ink, I make up plants and flowers, record them on video (and post on Tik Tok) and take a picture for Instagram. I have several ideas of what to create with the plants once I am done... I will keep you posted!! Hola! I just started a Tik-Tok. I had an account for a while, but I wasn't sure what to upload. I am not much of a dancer on camera, so I decided to go with what I do best. Drawing. I have a deep love for Nature, but I have not gotten a green thumb, so I started the #greenthumbproject with the idea of drawing a (fake, invented) flower/plant a day for 100 days. I am in day 9 and you can follow the videos here TikTok
"Black Lives Matter" is a statement about police brutality against Black People, it is a statement about how after years the slavery was abolished, they still have to fight for their right to be innocent until proven guilty, they still have to go to the street to fight because the Police, the ones that should be defending them, are killing them without being punished.
It is NOT an opportunity for anyone else that is not black to bring to our attention how much that one time they suffered for whatever reason. Police brutality is happening DAILY to black people. There is no way to hide your color. The only way to fix this is to recognize what is happening and changing behaviours. Please, and thank you. |
