This is the second year I am part of this amazing fundraiser organized to gather funds for an even more amazing organization. I will be painting a Wall of Words live during the event, and it will be auctioned right after the event. I hope you all can make it! Art and Resistance Through Education (ARTE) is a Brooklyn-based non-profit organization that engages young people to amplify their voices and organize for human rights change through visual arts.ARTE invites you to our annual fundraiser, which will be streamed virtually on Friday, February 18th from 7:00-9:00pm ET. On this celebratory evening, join ARTE community members as we gather together to:
All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to support ARTE’s work. Since its inception, ARTE has engaged over 8,000 community members in its art-based, human rights pedagogy, including youth, teachers, artists, and activists, and created several community-based mural projects in four boroughs across New York City. For more information about ARTE, please visit our website or check out our 2020 annual report here. This painting was created live during the ARTE virtual annual fundraiser. The attendants answered to the question: What does your vision of a more just world look like? And from those answers I took key words and created this painting. Soon the painting will be auctioned and will find a new home. I really miss live art events. I miss talking to people, learning something from everyone. Interacting and being social. Sigh. I was approached to volunteer for a project I thought it was genius, pair artists with expecting mothers to paint their bellies with the vord VOTE. They asked every mother why they decided to do this in the times we are living, and all of them coincide that they are doing it for the future of their children.
Voting is your civil duty and your right. So many people died so we can vote, think about that. Vote for the ones that can't, the ones that are in prison, the ones at the hospital and can't go. Use your right. Bump the Vote This summer has been pretty interesting due to the pandemic. All the staple events have gone virtual or have been cancelled. This year it was the 10th anniversary of the New Village Music Festival and the organizers decided to do something small with a few artists and one band.
I was happy to come out and see people I haven't seen in a while. Painting outdoors is always plus! I decided I was going to create something for a friend that is having her second girl. I always like to gift Art, I try to think of something they will be able to use now but that it will last a little longer that only when they are babies. I created this two paintings so they realize how amazing they are and that Black Girls are MAGIC! Another amazing day at Boogie at the Boulevard happened this Sunday. I put together 5 amazing artists to paint live with me and the Bronx Community. Earlier in the week I asked through my social media what they would like me to paint and "Cats & Butterflies" was a pretty awesome answer, so this is my take on it!
It's always so much fun to go out, paint, talk to the community, share time, laughs and dance moves! Thank you to the artists, to the volunteers and to all the friends that came out to Boogie on the Boulevard once more. So many artists and public gathered at Tompkins Square Park to participate in the 9th Music Festival. I was invited to come and paint live during the concert. I met great artists, collaborated with Carlos Pinto and had the best time in a wonderful Lower East Side afternoon!
I continued with my series "Nature is Watching You" with a special Still Life Composition.
