BxArt Factory will be celebrating Women History Month with their Art Exhibition: Innuendos: The Voices of 10 Bronxite Women I will be presenting the piece "I'm every woman" It's a reflection of what we are taught, what we accept, what we overcome and what we aspire to be. We all struggle with our bodies, our insecurities, our fears, and we have to learn from the experiences we live, trying not to make the same mistake twice. We know that the issues that still affect women today are topics that must be talked about often but we hope that with this exhibition we continue the conversation and bring awareness to the community. BxArts Factory is a not-for-profit organization founded to provide a space to support local artists working in the Bronx. We plan to assist affiliated artists to engage and advance the Arts in communities throughout the borough via a diverse set of arts-oriented programming and services. Through collaborations with local artists and community based organizations, we will offer dynamic arts education programming that incorporates all of the fine arts. While curriculum development and curation of art exhibits will be completed by our program directors, classroom based activities will be led by our in-house, teaching artists. The BxArts Factory intends to provide unique and engaging experiences to advance the Arts and cultural education in the Bronx.
BxArts Factory is a project visualized by Laura Alvarez (local artist), Twahira Khan (Community Activist), Alexis Mendoza (founder of Alexis Mendoza Curatorial Projects) and Yolanda L. Rodriguez (founder and director of Visiones Culturales, Inc.). These four individuals bring forth knowledge and experience that will secure the success of this development. BxArts Factory will also include the talents of local Bronx artists and community members Latanya DeVaughn, Josue Guarionex Colon, Yarisa Colon and Masiel Ureña.
The Bronx Latin American Biennial’s main objective is to create awareness in the arts by developing an international network with Latin American artists, as well as establish the opportunity to exhibit the best of their works. The event is to motivate the creative mind and challenge the contemporary global art community. These group exhibitions, will present art as an expression of the human condition and it reflects the notions of progress, civilizations, welfare, society and culture.
The Bronx Latin American Biennial is aimed to provide education and cultural information for every one, all the events are family oriented. It’s an event that celebrates not only the richness of the Latin American art but also the diversity of our community. This event offers the community the opportunity to access people from diverse cultural backgrounds, languages and ethnicity. Joint us for a Latin American Art celebration throughout the Bronx, showcasing panels of discussion, art exhibitions, urban installations and performances by artists from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Honduras, México, Nicaragua, Panamá, Paraguay, Perú, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Last Friday I went to my friend's apartment. We ate, I made sangria, and she wanted me to draw something in her empty walls. She saw a sketch I just finished and said that was what she wanted.
So I opened my sharpies and started drawing. I love making art. I think it's one of the things that gives me strength and keeps me calm. In my darkest and shiniest moments I feel better just scribbling on a coaster. This time I had a whole wall. Thank you Skye. You are awesome. Go to my FB page to see more pictures! Last Saturday I had the honor to participate with three of my pieces in the Art For Autism Fundraiser at El Fogon, All proceeds will go to Autism Speaks and Parents Of Autistic Children, two great organizations.
Here you see some of the people who came to support, the group of artist that donated their pieces, and on the right, the little lady that got my artwork during the fundraiser and her with the artwork already hanged up in her room. It was an amazing experience for all of us! Thanks Ed Alvarez for the pictures! |
