The end of my SPARC residency
Since March I've been working on the SPARC residency (Seniors Partnering with Artists Citywide) that it is a community arts engagement program that places artists-in-residence at senior centers across the five boroughs of New York City.
I've been working in the Bronx, at Neighborhood SHOPP Leon Senior Center, where I taught them how to use ink, color pencils and paper to liberate their minds and exercise their imagination. (Many of them thought they didn't have any, but then realized they do). And they taught me many things too. We laughed, talked, enjoyed stories. We got to know each other and I’m going to miss them terribly now that the residency has ended.
Today we had the final exhibition and the book presentation. We worked in some stories based in their works of art.
Amazing experience and amazing people.
