Back in September, during the WHEDco weekend walk, BxArts Factory created a fun activity to increase the exposure of the nearby Morning Glory Community Garden. At the same time I engaged the community to help me paint the fence of the garden and beautify the space.
It was a very successful event, many members of the community came, painted and enjoyed the great space they have at the garden, hopefully we encouraged more neighbors to be part of the MGCG and will be enjoying fresh vegetables for their homes. Last Friday I had the opportunity to paint two containers at the East River Compost Yard, part of the Lower East Side Ecology Center. NY Cares brought over a hundred volunteers from L'Oreal USA and they did a great job at painting the artwork I previously draw for them.
I am always happy to beautify this city and promote ecology, sustainability and composting!! Thank you Lia for thinking of me for this project :) This is the latest mural I've done, to celebrate the The Bronx Music Heritage Center will be opening a new building soon. They are on a mission to beautify the Melrose area where the new building is going to be placed. For that mission, WHEDco has partnered with BxArts Factory. We will be bringing artists to work with the community and make the area happier. I spent a couple of days doing what I do best, creating a colorful piece of art that everyone can enjoy. Visit this mural and other beautiful murals at 163rd St and Melrose Ave, in The Bronx, New York. I had the pleasure of working with Ralph Serrano and KayLove. I want to thank Vanezza and Allison who came out to spray some paint and they were a great help!! With my Eye-Flowers (and sometimes Skull-Flowers) I want to send a message to the viewers, to make them reflect in what we are doing to Mother Nature. I've always been in the green side, and some of the things we are doing to this wold are already coming back to us. We can't keep trashing the oceans and burning our trees to plant transgenic soy beans. Just think about it. A while ago I painted a mural with the children of the Melrose community during Bronx Music @ Melrose: Salsa! organized by WhEDCO and The Bronx Music Heritage. The mural is located at Elton and Brook Ave in The Bronx. It took us a little while to put it up, but it's finally there for everyone to see!!
The Bronx Band will be playing happily at their location until the new Bronx Music Heritage Center is built. Two trees grow in Kingsbridge Heights.
Next September 14th at 1p.m. we will have the unveiling of the KHCC Grows mural. This summer we created an amazing mural at the 231st step street and Kingsbridge Terrace, in The Bronx. The kids from the Summer program at the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC), some of the staff, some of my friends, and myself worked hard to beautify a long time neglected street in the Bronx. Neighbors have been witness of the transformation at the step street and have expressed their gratitude numerous times. It has been a long process, we faced many challenges, but at the end, seeing the final product and the reactions of the people who walk up and down the stairs every day, is priceless. I am so happy that I can better the life of a Bronx community through my art. Thank you Karen, Lovie, Yazmeen, and Eileen for your awesome help, thanks to everyone that supports me, to Sadie because she believed in my vision more than a year ago when we started talking about it. Derwin, you know how many hours we have invested in this project! Carlos, who sent me the email about this opportunity, and the DOT that finally approved and in part funded the mural. Thanks to Bon Secours, because they made sure we didn't run out of money in the middle of the summer, and a big thanks to all the kids that participated painting during those long hours under the NYC sun. See you the 14th!
Last Friday I went to my friend's apartment. We ate, I made sangria, and she wanted me to draw something in her empty walls. She saw a sketch I just finished and said that was what she wanted.
So I opened my sharpies and started drawing. I love making art. I think it's one of the things that gives me strength and keeps me calm. In my darkest and shiniest moments I feel better just scribbling on a coaster. This time I had a whole wall. Thank you Skye. You are awesome. Go to my FB page to see more pictures! Today I had the privilege to redesign the wall menu at La Churreria, a great Spanish cafe in NoLiTa, NYC. They are located at 284 Mullberry Street. Their food is amazing and I finally found a place in Ny where I can have real Spanish Chocolate to dip freshly made churros.
I just love drawing words, and this job was a real pleasure!! This summer while I was in Spain I made this mural paintings in a private after school.
I based my work in the imaginary worlds that come from the books. In my mind books fly from cloud to cloud leaving their fantastic worlds behind, but you can't see them from where we are because they are always on top. Hope you like it. Recently Friends of Soundview Park have been authorized to paint the sprinkler area of the park at Lafayette Street.
I have a beautiful project and we are starting next May 19th. We need volunteers to help painting this project, you don't need to be an artist, just fill the blanks! Come and bring all your friends to have a beautiful day celebrating "It's my Park Day" From 10am to 2pm we will be bringing the waterfront life to the wall. And you can also participate in the different activities the Park will have that day. |
