Two years ago I had the pleasure of being part of Women in Comics, the first exhibition of that kind in The Bronx. This August, we bring you the second part. Lots of artists, illustrations, comics and workshops will happen during this month at Poe Park Visitor Center.
I would like to invite everyone to the opening Saturday, August 1st, at 2640 Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY. From 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. we will be enjoying the company of many female illustrators, writers, producers, film makers, artists, and we will have a panel discussion about the situation of the women in comics.
As Robert Wadell says in his exhibition review - “I’m Every Woman” examines the notion of words as complement and accusation together. The panels give a left, back and right of a headless woman with words whispered or shouted around the subject as in a mug shot where sometimes people blame, shame and talk about a woman just for being who she is.-
BxArt Factory will be celebrating Women History Month with their Art Exhibition: Innuendos: The Voices of 10 Bronxite Women I will be presenting the piece "I'm every woman" It's a reflection of what we are taught, what we accept, what we overcome and what we aspire to be. We all struggle with our bodies, our insecurities, our fears, and we have to learn from the experiences we live, trying not to make the same mistake twice. We know that the issues that still affect women today are topics that must be talked about often but we hope that with this exhibition we continue the conversation and bring awareness to the community. Innuendos opens at the Andrew Freedman Home (1125 Grand Concourse) on Friday, March 6th and runs through April 1st! There will be an opening reception on the 6th but there is also have some great programming: Wednesday, March 18th we will welcome La Pluma y La Tinta and their event titled New Voices in the Boroughs: The Bronx (Buy tickets here) Friday, March 20th we will have artists Ijeoma D. Iheanacho will present her project reImagining with photos, videos and a panel of some of the women that participated in the project. There will be a great closing reception on Wednesday, April 1st with performances and more! I hope to see you all at the opening reception! For more info go to: Facebook event Page to RSVP
